Planning and working with us
Why should I consider working with you?
If you’re in or near retirement and looking for clarity on how much you can spend, how to reduce your taxes, how to navigate health insurance and Medicare, how your investments should be positioned, when you should start Social Security, and how insurance and estate planning play a role in your retirement, that’s exactly what we do. You will also have a trusted professional to make sure a surviving spouse has someone they can work with.
How are you different from other financial advisors?
Many advisors focus primarily on investment management. We know the investments are a critical piece, but we also know that they are only one piece of the retirement planning puzzle. We focus heavily on things many advisors don’t offer, like reviewing your tax return each year and finding tax planning opportunities to lower your overall tax bill in retirement. When it comes to health insurance, Scott has helped hundreds of clients navigate Medicare, and we’ll help you make smart health insurance decisions in retirement. We won’t simply tell you to just talk to your CPA or health insurance broker when you have questions. We’re part of those conversations.
A few other ways we are different are that we are fiduciaries and act in your best interest 100% of the time, we won’t sell you any financial products you may not need (since we’re only paid by our clients and never receive commissions), and we specialize in retirement planning.
What is your experience/credentials?
Ryan and Scott have each been in the financial services industry serving clients for roughly ten years.
Ryan has been client-facing practically his entire career, with several years of experience as a Branch Manager and Wealth Management Banker with a larger regional bank, along with experience as an advisor with an independent investment management and financial planning firm, before ultimately founding Tishy Financial LLC. He ran Tishy Financial, now known as IronKOOR Retirement, LLC, as the sole advisor for three years.
Scott spent two years as a health insurance agent with a large independent broker, where he became an expert at helping clients navigate Medicare. Scott has worked as a Wealth Manager for two different independent investment management and financial planning firms over the last several years, and was Director of Wealth Management Services in his last role before co-founding IronKOOR Retirement, LLC.
Ryan and Scott are both CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professionals, which is widely regarded in the industry as the deepest foundational knowledge base for financial planning.
We have enough real-world and technical experience to meaningfully improve your retirement plan, but we’re young enough that we expect to be here for your whole retirement.
Am I locked into anything when I work with you?
No. We have no long-term contracts. If you decide to work with us and later change your mind for any reason, our agreements allow you to end the relationship. We would never want you to continue paying us as your advisor if you didn’t feel like the service you’re receiving was worth it.
How much money do I need to work with you?
We generally work with clients who’ve saved $500,000+ across all their investment/retirement accounts. However, we will work with clients who’ve saved at least $200,000 when it’s a good fit and we can add value.
Do you prepare tax returns?
We don’t prepare tax returns. We do tax planning to help you reduce your taxes in retirement while working closely with your tax preparer or CPA during the year. If you need a referral to a good tax preparer, we can help.
What does it cost to work with you?
We’re paid based on a percentage of the total assets we manage for a household. Our fee comes directly out of your accounts held at Charles Schwab proportionate to each account balance. The fees are deducted quarterly (1/4 of fee stated below) in advance based on the following annual fee schedule:
| Assets we manage | Annual fee |
|---|---|
| $0 - $1,000,000 | 1.25% |
| $1,000,001 - $3,000,000 | 1.00% |
| $3,000,001+ | 0.75% |
(Note that this is a non-tiered schedule, meaning all your assets are billed at one rate based on the total, rather than a blended rate.)
Where will my money be held?
Your money is held at Charles Schwab, one of the largest independent custodians.
About the first conversation
Is there a cost to talk?
No. The first conversation costs nothing and comes with no obligation.
How long is the first meeting?
About 15–30 minutes. It’s a short introductory call by phone to hear what’s on your mind and see whether we’re a good mutual fit.
Do I need to bring anything?
It helps to have a general sense of your account balances, but nothing formal is required for a first conversation. We’ll tell you what’s useful to gather once we know what you want to cover.
